Dear daughter,
Today on 30th April 2017, when very soon you are going to turn 8 months old and will enter the 9th month, i am missing you very much. You are at your Grandparents’ place. I am a little worried, so i will discuss with you. You have very keen interest in politics i know :-). Today North Korea threatened for another atomic bomb testing. Things are pretty serious, because USA has got another man as unpredictable as North Korean dictator. This event today made so many thoughts run across my mind. Media is saying we may be on the verge of the atomic war or third world war. Its worrying. Wars are always worrying. The cost everyone pays due to whims of someone or few. A whole nation pays, a whole generation pays, they say.
I disagree. Generalization is easy because it pretend to distribute the pain among masses, a sort of freeing ourselves from the moral responsibility of war. Cost of war is never same for everyone. Same nation, same generation but this war may tax every single person at different rate.
You know i will tell you something- You know Japan, a very developed country with very hard working people. This is a small country but its is richer than America! Japan was bombed by America. America dropped the most powerful bomb of human history on Japan. But when i say Japan was bombed, i am generalizing it. I must say two cities of Japan were bombed. As a nation whole Japan felt the pain, but who gives thought what happened to Mr. X living next to me otherwise. So when i say two cities were bombed i must again say those were bombed who were really affected by this bombing. It was horrible. But what more disturbing is not the direct effect bombing had on those people who died, but the people who survived. Diseases made their life worse than hell and if any hope was left same was crushed by the Other “unaffected” Japanese! Yes, those who survived faced a horrific discrimination just because they were there at that time. They were looked upon as untouchables, their children who were affected due to radiations were treated like lepers. They found it hard to get married, or get a good life for their family (whatever was left in name of family).
So war is painful, painful for those who suffer. Wars become history for nations, but those who bear the brunt are no where to be described. it has always been like this. Since the time unknown humankind fought under a leader. Leader won, lost, died or was wounded but those who fought with the leader were never mentioned.
I don’t know why i am writing it, maybe i just wanted to share what all crossed my mind when i heard that word “world war”. But you need not worry, the same atomic bomb is the reason why your generation may never see a war. Today every nation knows a war means losses to it too, devastating losses. So it may be just another event of muscle-flexing, which i wish it be.
Now good-night. Today i saw you on video call and you are able to stand by support. It was a joyous moment.
